Feedback on this course from a Director of Nursing

10 staff attended this training on the day (12 is max). We ensured a mixture of staff and had 3 nurses, 6 Healthcare Assistants and 1 admin. There was a 4:6 ratio of national and non national staff and we included 2 new starters. So a good mix over all.
I interviewed the staff who attended and the over all response is that they loved the day and found it extremely enjoyable and something they had no experience of before. It appears there was a lot of interactive work done on getting to know each other and bringing out the quieter staff. There were exercises on team building and working together. Also the staff reported that there was discussions about cultural difference and respect and how the demography of not only staff but residents will change over the coming years. The staff say there was also work done on listening skills, effective communication and body language.
It seems to have gone down very well and I certainly think it is a very worthwhile exercise to help get us working more efficiently in teams with better understanding of what a team is. Specific to me is the divide that emerges between my (very many long term staff) who are excellent but have unrealistic expectations of newer staff and don’t always give them the chance to develop. I think in current recruitment crisis the more we can do to build people the better our retention will be."
